6. The individual had both internal and external motivation - One form of motivation without the other will usually run dry. Every individual will come upon a day where they feel less motivated in the pursuit of their goals. If both internal and external motivation exists, one form of motivation can feed off the other form. For example, if your main goal were to lose 20 lbs. for a wedding, you would have increasing motivation as the wedding began to approach. But, if 6 months prior to your wedding, your physician told you that your cholesterol was so high that he feared your health was in danger, you would now add the internal motivator of self-preservation to the external motivator of your wedding.
7. The individual surrounded himself with people who had already attained the goal they were chasing - You will always tend to be like the people you bring into your "inner circle". For this reason, people tend to look like their dogs...just kidding. All joking aside, the single fastest way to reach your fitness goals is to find a fitness buff and become friends with them. You will learn to think as they think, train as they train, and eat as they eat. Before you know it, you will reach your goal and have a new friend to lift with. Use caution with this one!!! I will explain in 8.
8. The individual believed and practiced that actions worked better than words - The gym is not a social playground. If you are spending any time in a gym having conversations, you are wasting time. Period. Your goals will be hampered by talking to friends or acquaintances. Your time is your money. If other people want to waste theirs, don't let it carry over to you. If your training partner is a mouth on wheels, tell them you will talk over the weekend, or get a new partner. Then get down to business.
9. The individual didn't watch T.V. - Unless it was the Discovery Channel, Biography, HGTV, or The Weather Channel. Seriously, too much time is wasted with the tube. Look at how many gut-busting workouts are archived in our workout section. Some of these workouts last literally 5 minutes. Don't tell me you don't have time to workout if you are watching more than 10 minutes of T.V. per day. That goes back to number 2.
10. The individual thought that health was wealth - Health may not be the only type of wealth but it is certainly one type of wealth. I've seen entire families strengthened by the leadership of a man when he is physically strengthened. Your wife will find you sexier. Your children will look up to you more. Your sex life will improve 10-fold (and probably 10x more often). You will have more confidence at work, at home, and everywhere in between. You will be able to pass the knowledge of health to your friends and family and potentially add a decade or more to both your life and theirs. Health is definitely wealth.
There you have it! Start applying these goals to your workout routine and you will begin to see amazing results in a short period of time.
